Transfer Rumors 2013 – Real Madrid Might Sell Angel Di Maria to Manchester City

Despite being one of the best players for Real Madrid over the last three seasons, the club won’t stand in his way in case the right offer comes along, with Manchester City looking like the club that will be trying to sign him this summer.

An arrival of a coach from the La Liga means more La Liga signings, although you don’t really need any local expertise to know that Angel Di Maria, even after a slightly disappointing season, is one of the best wingers in the world, that seems to be adding more and more to his all around game and his ability to play in more than one position each season.

While some of it may be attributed to his work under Jose Mourinho, the two weren’t the best of friends during this season, with Mourinho criticizing Di Maria more than once for his work ethic and on not willing to give his all to his team, even hinting that his injuries weren’t the most serious thing in the world.

Di Maria still played in 52 matches in all competitions (17 coming off the bench), scoring 9 goals and adding 17 assists. Looking to the future, it’s hard to think of Real Madrid not considering Di Maria as a vital part of whatever happens next, considering they have paid €36 million for him in 2010 to bring him over from Benfica, his age (25), and a contract that’s signed until 2018.

But some players aren’t completely untouchable, few are, if the money is right. It seems City, after the disappointing season which included another early Champions League exit and not really being involved in any sort of title race in the Premier League, are willing to spend more than they did last summer for Roberto Mancini, who did get to make some rash, deadline day signings that didn’t really add anything to the club.

Di Maria has been capped 38 times for the Argentine national side, scoring 8 goals. He has 25 goals and 53 assists since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning one league title.
