Transfer Rumors 2013 – Manchester United Trying to Sign Nampalys Mendy

There’s nothing better than a free gift, and Manchester United might be able to get their hands on one, if the interest rumors are true, with Nampalys Mendy from Monaco looking to continue his career elsewhere, including Old Trafford.

The 20 year old defensive midfielder, known for being a strong tackler despite his small stature (1.68 meters), playing with the French U-20 side in the Toulon tournament, has played for Monaco over the last three seasons, but has let his contract run out, refusing to sign a new deal with the club up until now.

Nampalys Mendy

According to Mendy, he won’t announce his future until later on this summer, but according to L’Equipe, Manchester United have been alerted of his contract situation and might swoop in to make a second young signing this summer following Guillermo Varella from Uruguay.

Mendy has been playing for all the French international youth sides since he was 16, and has appeared 80 times for Monaco over the last three seasons. However, the arrivals of anyone expensive the club has managed to get their hands on so far (although no one playing at his position up to this point) has led Mendy to believe he might no longer be a lineup player next season solely because he isn’t a big enough name.

Nice are also looking into the option of signing Mendy, which will make his new place of work quite close to his old one, but there’s no doubt that if Manchester United, always interested in young talent regardless of their need (and they need a strong defensive midfielder) are really into signing the youngster, the chances he goes anywhere else, considering the current competitions, are very slim.
