Transfer Rumors 2013 – Liverpool Will Sign Luis Alberto

One of the players it seems will inevitably end up at Anfield, simply because he’s a lot cheaper than his potential, is Luis Alberto Romero, owned by Sevilla but spending last season playing for Barcelona B.

The 20-year old left winger was loaned out to the Barca B team in order to get some more playing time after appearing only 7 times for the senior Sevilla side since making his debut in 2011, usually spending his time with the team’s B team as well, although they play in the Segunda División B, unlike Barcelona B, who play in the Spanish Segunda division and weren’t that far from finishing in a top that puts them in a position to be promoted, although the rules of the La Liga prohibit a reserve team playing in the same division as its parent club.

Alberto scored 11 goals and added 18 assists in 38 matches for Barcelona B, getting quite a lot of attention from teams around Europe. The best thing for Liverpool is that Sevilla are suffering significant financial difficulties, and may be forced to sell him for a lot less than players of his talent usually are. He has been pretty impressive when playing for Sevilla themselves, scoring 5 goals in 7 matches, but no one was willing to give him a big enough role just yet.

With his contract running out in 2015, Sevilla might have to sell him for around £5 million, if only to cover their debt which has been crippling the team for the last three seasons, turning into a mid-table team in Spain after a few years of being very close to the top, which included European glory (two UEFA cups) and playing in the Champions League.

According to the Daily Mail, Brendan Rodgers would very much like to end the saga of Alberto’s arrival and put himself in a position where he has enough depth to properly execute the 4-3-3 he wanted to see from Liverpool last season.
