Transfer Rumors 2013 – Chelsea Trying to Sign Robert Lewandowski

Despite the news of Robert Lewandowski not wanting to play anywhere else but Bayern Munich, Chelsea will still be attempting to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker after already acquiring one player from the Bundesliga.

Andre Schurrle has finally arrived at Stamford Bridge for a fee of £18 million, which ends more than a year of on and off negotiations between the two sides over the price and player compensation Leverkusen tried to get in the form of Kevin de Bruyne.

The next name on the list for Chelsea was Edinson Cavani, but Napoli won’t budge from their £53 million demands (his release clause), and a rumored £42.5 million bid from Chelsea wasn’t enough to make them move from their position, although at the Europa League champions those claims are being denied.

According to the Telegraph, next on the list is Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker, who has scored 66 goals over the last two seasons with the German side, has only one year left on his contract and has asked to leave the club, although to a very specific destination.

Lewandowski wants only to play for Bayern Munich, as an offer for him from Real Madrid has already been turned down by him and his agent. Despite the possibility to earn more in salary if he joins the Premier League or Real Madrid, his marketability for a company like Adidas is at its highest if he remains and Germany, and specifically plays for Bayern. Rumors suggest that his agent is the one pulling all the strings, and having too much influence on the player.

Dortmund will be willing to part ways from the player for £25 million, despite saying on numerous occasions they don’t want him to leave and are willing to hang on to him for one more season and see him go for free next season. Chelsea aren’t very pleased with their striker situation (Fernando Torres and Demba Ba), an Schurrle is the first piece of fixing that, although he isn’t exactly filling that role.

At Chelsea, they’re hoping that whatever stopped Lewandowski from joining Real Madrid will go away by the time their offer gets through to Dortmund.
