It seems that if Manchester United won’t be able to go through with their plans to reclaim Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid, they will turn their attention to Gareth Bale, who should cost just as much, if anyone is going to get him from Tottenham.
How did Bale’s price reach these astronomical estimates of £85 million? And surely, if he’s worth that much, it means that Cristiano Ronaldo should be worth… what, £100 million? It doesn’t matter at the moment. There’s a certain cycle of actions and reactions that involved United, Real Madrid, Tottenham and the two mentioned players.
While Florentino Perez is talking about Cristiano Ronaldo retiring as a Madridista, Cristiano Ronaldo came out and tweeted something quite ambiguous, about everything said about his contract renewal is a pack of lies. The problem is, it’s been said that he isn’t renewing his contract, and it’s also been said that he is renewing his contract. So he really didn’t clarify anything, only made a lot more people a lot more nervous.
United want Ronaldo back, but it’s doubtful they’ll be willing to pay that much money for him. Remember, the club’s biggest signing ever was Dimitar Berbatov for £30.75 million in 2008. It’s hard to believe that all of a sudden they’d be willing to break the record and actually sign him back for more than what they sold him for, but things might get a little bit weird with Alex Ferguson gone.
But United have a backup plan. Everyone’s predicting that if Gareth Bale lands at Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo will leave them to United, despite the fact that Ferguson isn’t there anymore. Maybe that’s true, but it’s all depends on what rumor you believe in. And what if Real Madrid don’t sign Bale?
It seems the Welshman is rather quiet on his future, while Tottenham are waiting for the storm to blow over. But without Champions League football, it’s going to be hard to keep him along for another season of maybe. United will try and sign him if the Ronaldo deal doesn’t pan out. But for £85 million? They’d have to be crazy, but no one said that an offer of £50-60 million won’t be enough to get Tottenham to give up on Bale.
