Transfer Rumors 2013 – Chelsea Closer to Signing Marco Van Ginkel

After a few weeks of foreplay, Chelsea are trying to step up their efforts in signing Marco van Ginkel of Vitesse, willing to give more than just money for the young Dutch international, offering £ as well as a cash offer.

Van Ginkel was probably the most impressive player for the Dutch side that reached the semifinal of the Under-21 European championship this summer, and has already appeared once for the senior national team. He had a record-year with Vitesse in 2012-2013, scoring a career high 8 goals, establishing the future of interest of bigger clubs from richer leagues.

When Gaël Kakuta joined Chelsea in 2007 when he was only 16, and despite being considered one of the biggest young talents in Europe for a while, also causing quite a lot of legal mess for Chelsea when he joined them from Lens, he hasn’t been able to find a place with the senior team.

He has played only six times for Chelsea since finishing his apprenticeship with the youth squad, spending most of the past few seasons on loan at Fulham, Bolton, Dijon and last season with Vitesse, where the Dutch were mostly impressed with the winger’s abilities.

However, he wasn’t that good so Chelsea would renew their faith in him as a player who one day might breakthrough into the first team. Vitesse would like to keep Kakuta on a more permanent basis, and so would like to include him in the deal for Van Ginkel, who is getting more and more impatient with the delay in his move to the Premier League.

In the proposed deal, Chelsea would pay Vitesse £8 million, and add Kukuta as the kicker to finally convince Vitesse to sell the young Dutch midfielder, hoping to have a much stronger unit in the middle of the field than they had last year.
