Days are passing by, and Liverpool are hoping that the storm around Luis Suarez will settle down eventually, keeping him at the club. But the threat isn’t coming just from abroad, as Manchester City might be interested to make the most of the situation and snap up the Uruguayan striker.

According to the Daily Star Sunday and Sunday Express, the disappointment from the Isco deal, which saw the Spanish star finally agree to sign with Real Madrid, has turned City’s attention a little bit closer to home.

Luis Suarez himself seems to be pushing a deal with Real Madrid, but the Spanish club hasn’t shown any official or public interest in the player, and certainly hasn’t approached Liverpool in an attempt to sign him, which would cost around £40 million.

While some are reporting Edinson Cavani now to be the club’s main transfer target, City are turning their attention to a player who has declared he only wants to play in Spain, for Real Madrid or Barcelona, if he does leave Liverpool eventually. The arrival of Manuel Pellegrini, known for his highly successful stints in the La Liga with Villarreal and Malaga, might help Suarez change his mind about his future destination.

But this deal is far from easy to make. Liverpool wouldn’t mind getting a full reimbursement from a foreign club, but selling Suarez to a rival in the Premier League was never on the table, and might either harden their position on the player staying, or simply raise the price to around £50 million, which is the same fee they got from Chelsea on Fernando Torres.

At the moment, Suarez is busy in Brazil playing for Uruguay, trying to lead them into the semifinal of the Confederations Cup, keeping slightly away from all the news and noise around him in Europe itself, which will probably change once the tournament is over, and put him right back into the thick of things.
