At the moment, David Luiz is playing with Brazil in the Confederations Cup, but that doesn’t mean his name isn’t mentioned quite often in Europe as well, with Chelsea constantly linked with other clubs regarding the centre back, with Paris Saint-Germain being offered as his next destination.
Ever since Jose Mourinho has been announced as the next manager of Chelsea, the rumors have been circling around David Luiz’ future with the club. The Brazilian centre back is usually looked upon as one of the best at his position in the Premier League, especially due to his improvement on the defensive side this last season and his ability with the ball, often making him a defensive midfielder under Rafa Benitez.
There hasn’t been anything official from Mourinho, but the tabloids have been happy to report the Portuguese manger is looking for something else in his leading central defender, while it’s not quite clear what it is. This makes Luiz, 26, a clear transfer target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Barcelona often named as potential suitors.
Now that Paris Saint-Germain are very close to signing a new manager (Laurent Blanc), they can start moving forward a bit more aggressively when it comes to new signings, and one of their primary targets this summer appears to be Luiz.
Not just for his own ability, but because bringing him would reunite Thiago Silva with his Brazil central-defense partner, something both of them wouldn’t mind happening also on a club level. The two have been mentioned as an option for Barcelona, but it’s hard to see Barcelona paying what PSG are requesting for Silva, who was the most expensive part of the deal with AC Milan last summer, bringing him along with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Alex, another Brazilian who also has a Chelsea past, was a partner to Silva in the middle of the defense (along with Mamadou Sakho), and the 31 year old seems keen on returning to Brazil, opening a place in the rotation PSG would love to fill with another Brazilian, David Luiz, who should cost at least £25 million to bring over.
