Not a lot of people believe how can Julian Draxler be worth so much (€45.5 million), but his high value hasn’t stopped Chelsea, Manchester and Real Madrid from attempting to sign the talented German youngster from Schalke.
For now, there has been no official offer, but Draxler, who has been with the club since he was 8 year old, has no intention of leaving at the moment. He’s signed until 2018, and has told Schalke officials he does not wish to accept any offers from a big club, even if it means tens of millions of Euros in salary he might be giving up for the next few years.
It’s hard to believe, but Draxler is still two months away from his 20th birthday. He has already played 109 matches for Schalke, including in the Champions League, where he’ll be back once again next season, while also appearing six times for the German national team. He has flown a bit under the radar in terms of a more global fame, but despite not being named Mario Gotze or some other European wonderkid, he is undoubtedly one of the more promising young talents in world football today.
Draxler himself isn’t only about loyalty. Thinking about the World Cup coming up in 12 months, having such a short season, which includes, hopefully, as many Champions League matches as possible, Draxler thinks that a drastic change isn’t the best thing for him, preferring to stay with the club he’s always been at. His rise to prominence (scoring 10 league goals last season) hasn’t gone unnoticed by the richest clubs in the continent, but for now, it seems like they’ll just have to wait.
The two teams with the strongest link to Draxler have been Chelsea (since Mourinho arrived) and Real Madrid, with Real presumably making an offer that has already been rejected by the club. Chelsea and Manchester City are more of distance-admirers, waiting to see any sign of break in the relationship between Draxler and his club to make a move, or simply move on to the next prospect.
