It’s been a number of years now that Mamadou Sakho is waiting for his big breakthrough at Paris Saint-Germain, but it might be that the French centre back will have his big moment somewhere else, as both Liverpool and AC Milan are interested in signing him, promising him more playing time than the French champions have been able to give him so far.
If it wasn’t for the Qatari take over, Sakho might have been a bit happier with his role, although not quite sure about the quality of teammates. He did play in 27 league matches last season, but was mostly regarded as a second option to Thiago Silva and Alex, finding a place in the lineup only when an injury occurred to one of the two.
Sakho, 23 year old, has appeared 196 times for PSG, making his debut for the club a day after his 17th birthday. He has been playing at least 20 league matches a season since the 2008-2009 campaign, but in France and in Paris there are those who thought he might be a bit more dominant by now, appearing 13 times for the national side since 2010.
According to Sakho, a talk with Laurent Blanc is going to determine whether or not he’ll be staying at PSG for another season, hoping that there are better offers and chances for him with the new manager. In short, he wants assurances he’ll be one of the two starting centre backs, although now that Alex is returning to Brazil, it wouldn’t be surprising to see PSG trying to sign a big named central defender, with many pointing at David Luiz.
If the answer won’t be satisfactory to Sakho, who has only one more season left on his contract, the road to finding a new club will be short and easy. Liverpool, looking for a central defender to pair up with Daniel Agger, will surely be in the competition for the player, while AC Milan, who need some sort of upgrade at almost every position, are also in the mix.
Sakho? It seems PSG is his first choice, but only if first-team football is promised to him. At Liverpool, Milan and other clubs, the battle for a first-team spot won’t be as difficult.
