With the current manager, Arsenal will always have a special thing for French players, and the next one on the shortlist for Arsenal is Sebastien Corchia of Sochaux, although the train on that one might have already left the station.
The 22-year old right back has already mentioned more than once that he would love to play for Lyon, which are quite close to signing him. Still, Arsenal are trying to waive a better price and salary at the former France U-21 player, with 26 caps for the younger team, hoping his debut for the national team isn’t a very long wait away,.
Arsenal aren’t too pleased with their right back situation: Bacary Sagna is no longer an automatic option and possibly on his way out of the team due to an injury he can’t shake off, which has caused his form on both ends of the pitch to drastically drop.
There is Carl Jenkinson, the “future”, but he was very inconsistent last season with a few very memorable mistakes still in minds of fans, Wenger himself and Jenkinson. Giving the starting job to him without an adequate backup would be quite dangerous, not to mention Arsenal probably need a bit more quality at the position if they’re planning on finishing a bit higher than they did last season in all competitions.
Corchia isn’t the only French player (valued at €4 million) Arsenal are trying to sign. The young Auxerre striker Yaya Sanogo will be joining them on a free transfer very soon, while Clement Grenier of Lyon, one of the more promising young midfielders in France, is another player they’ve been chasing for quite some time, hoping their persistence pays off in the end.
Corchia? At the moment it looks like a long shot, as he’s slightly fearing not fitting in and finding himself on the bench playing for a big Premier League club, but his move to Lyon still isn’t completed, which means there’s still a chance.
