While Real Madrid have yet to discuss and agree upon personal terms with Edinson Cavani, Chelsea have that angle of the deal all worked out, and now only need to finally find the fee that Napoli agree upon.
According to AS, Chelsea have already settled thing with Cavani, giving him €9 million per season on a five-year deal, seeing him as probably the best striker in the world right now, or the best they could get their hands on, with Falcao already joining Monaco and Robert Lewandowski & Zlatan Ibrahimovic not for sale at the moment.
But Napoli? They’re still holding out for the full amount of Cavani’s release clause, which is €63 million. Chelsea have already made one offer worth €50 million, but were rejected. Now, they’re trying to find a way to lower Napoli’s demands to €60 million and finally end this saga, with Cavani being on their shortlist for over a year now, as it looks like they’ve beaten both Manchester City and Real Madrid for the player.
And as for Real Madrid, who seem to be missing out on every player they’re trying to sign this summer, they’re too slow and behind when it comes to Cavani as well. They have begun talks with his representatives, but are nowhere near finalizing a contract.
Cavani himself would probably prefer Real Madrid, but also has the option of remaining at Napoli. He has an offer worth €7 million from the club, almost double his previous salary, and if things don’t happen quickly with Chelsea or anyone else, he might simply decide to remain in the Serie A and try to win a championship with Napoli.
Manchester United have also been suggested as a potential destination, but only if Wayne Rooney eventually leaves, helping them raise the funds necessary for such an expensive deal, which will be the biggest in the history of the club.
