NBA Rumors – Cleveland Cavaliers Interested in Signing Earl Clark

Earl Clark

At some point during last season, it looked like Earl Clark was having a breakout year for the Los Angeles Lakers. As the season progressed, his weaknesses were showing more and more, and his time on the floor was reduced. Still, being an interesting, athletic prospect as both forward positions, the Cleveland Cavaliers would like to have a go at Clark.

According to Sportingnews, Clark is currently visiting the Cavs in Ohio, meeting with them two days in a row. The interesting aspect of this poential move is that Clark’s role is already pretty much filled for the Cavs: They drafted Anthony Bennett, who is a power forward that loves playing on the outside, while there’s also Tristan Thompson, averaging 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds last season.

In short? If Clark, who averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds last season for the Lakers, joins the team, his minutes are going to be limited, probably even less than the 23.1 minutes a game he played for the Lakers, boosted by his 36 games in the starting lineup.

The 14th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft, Clark’s rookie contract has run its course, and he’s hoping what he showed last season for the Lakers during his finer moments, which especially has to do with his athleticism and rebounding, is enough to land him a multiyear deal with a team. His shooting is inconsistent, hitting 44% of his field goal attempts and 33.7% from beyond the arc.

If Clark can change his ways and start playing a lot more in the inside or at least change it up once in a while offensively, while becoming a much bigger threat to teams on the defensive side (not the greatest post defender in the world), the Cavs would be glad to have him, even as a third option behind Bennett and Thompson. The same Clark from last season during his mediocre and down moments, which often come when a few shots don’t drop, doesn’t help very much, even coming off the bench.
