NBA Rumors – Detroit Pistons Might Bring Chauncey Billups

Chauncey Billups

The last couple of seasons Chauncey Billups hasn’t really played too much, spending more time on the DL than playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, but he isn’t planning on retiring soon, and there’s a good chance the Detroit Pistons will give him one final shot at some NBA playing time.

Billups played only 42 games over the last two seasons for the Clippers after he was supposed to be a vital piece in their attempt to make a run for the title, averaging 15 points during his first season and only 8.4 during his second season.

For any other team, Billups is no longer going to be a starter. But there’s a good chance the Detroit Pistons, and other teams, will be looking to add his veteran presence, and hopefully remain healthy for most of the time.

Billups himself would like to play two more years before he retires, and there’s a chance that what the Pistons might offer him a front office job once he retires.

Billups would like to play for a contender, and his main preference is remaining with the Clippers, but after their trade for J.J. Redick, they might not have the room for him anymore, not to mention the cap-space. Other teams who are thinking about a title and would like to add someone who can play both guard positions to come off the bench might show up in the coming weeks or even later on, closer to the beginning of the season.

Still, the injuries of the last two years have slowed him down, not leaving too much demand for the 2004 NBA champion and Finals MVP. Might be that the Pistons will be the only team willing to give him a two-year contract, which is also an important factor in his decision, bundled together with the front office job, possibly the best offer he’s going to get at this stage.
