Transfer Rumors 2013 – Arsenal & Chelsea Trying to Sign Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez Liverpool

Not wanting to have any part of the English media isn’t stopping both Arsenal and Chelsea from setting their sights on Luis Suarez of Liverpool, if their initial targets for striker don’t pan out.

According to the Sunday Mirror, not the most trustworthy of sources, the two London clubs are serious about their intentions for Suarez, who has asked to leave Liverpool, at least through the media, but until recently it has been thought that Suarez’ intentions and sights are set on the Spanish La Liga, willing to play only for Barcelona or Real Madrid.

However, not having any European competition next season has to be bothering a player constantly mentioned as one of the best strikers in the world, scoring 23 league goals last season for Liverpool, not helping them finish above 7th. He also impressed for Uruguay during the Confederations Cup, with his free kick goal against Spain being voted as the best of the tournament.

Arsenal are constantly mentioned with Gonzalo Higuain, but despite all of the reports suggesting the deal is almost complete, no official word has come out, and Real Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, has been quoted saying there’s no deal with Arsenal and it’s possibly not even remotely close at the moment.

Chelsea are interested in Edinson Cavani and Robert Lewandowski, but the Uruguayan forward is on the verge of signing for PSG, while Dortmund’s Polish striker prefers staying in Germany.

So with two clubs looking for some of the best in the world to join them an their options running out, obviously Suarez is something they’re considering. The problem? Liverpool wouldn’t be too happy about letting Suarez go to one of their rivals, not to mention Suarez himself saying he doesn’t want to be in the Premier League anymore. Price also deserves to be factored in, and Liverpool aren’t likely to ask for less than £35 million, which is a hard price to match, especially for Arsenal.
