Transfer Rumors 2013 – Manchester United Trying to Sign Stevan Jovetić

Stevan Jovetic Fiorentina

The hunt for Stevan Jovetić seems to be one of the longest offseason sagas this summer, with Manchester United being a late entry to the race, but it doesn’t mean their odds are smaller than the rest of the teams looking to sign the player.

According to the Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, United are going to meet with Jovetić’s agent this week, hoping to agree on personal terms before the rest. Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal are all trying to sign the Montenegrin international, but nothing serious has really developed between the teams and Fiorentina, who aren’t about to sell their biggest talent for what they consider is cheap.

The interesting issue about Jovetić is him actually wanting to play for Juventus, but the Italian champions have already signed two strikers this past month, which means that even if they were to follow up on their interest in Jovetić, there’s just not enough room for him in the squad anymore, not to mention money Juventus probably don’t have. Fiorentina, for obvious reasons, would prefer him going to a club outside the Serie A.

And with David Moyes looking to add another forward, it’s more than likely that someone will be leaving. Right now, the strike force includes Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. If Jovetić does join the team, surely someone will be finding his way out, with most guessing Rooney to be the one that will find a speedy way to leave the club.

For now, United have been quite dormant in the transfer market. Be it being picky about the talent they’re about to add or simply not finding a deal that seems to be worth pulling the trigger on financially. It also might be about finding it harder to sign players now that David Moyes is the manager instead of Alex Ferguson, although that’s something that for now no one is brave enough to mention out loud.
