If the only thing that was standing in the way of Liverpool signing the attacking midfielder of their dreams was Ajax not letting Christian Eriksen to leave, it seems that roadblock has been removed.

Liverpool have been after a few attacking midfielders this summer, the first of them Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the Armenian preferred going to Dortmund. It seems that with that job being filled, Liverpool, who are still after players according to Brendan Rodgers, might make a move for the Danish midfielder.

According to Frank de Boer, Ajax’s manager for the past three seasons, he’s not going to be the one that stands in Eriksen’s way if he truly wants to join the Premier League club.

It is up to Christian what he wants. If he feels good going to Liverpool, then it is up to him. I would want nothing more than having him with us for a few more years. But we realize the interest in this kind of player is huge. And I can also understand that he wants to make another step in his career. I can’t stop him.

But the question is just how much Eriksen wants to leave, and how much Liverpool are willing to spend. Eriksen has been tinkering with the idea of leaving Ajax for the last couple of summers, but it doesn’t seem like he’s been fully committed to the idea. With Liverpool not playing in the Champions League or any European competition next season, the temptation of leaving the Dutch champions, where Eriksen has been a major part of the success for the last three seasons, might not be that great.

It’s also about how much Ajax are going to ask for him. His contract is over in 2014, which means Ajax might have to sell him for a lot less than they intended to. Once again, Liverpool, who haven’t been about spending too much money this summer, will have to see if they’re willing to spend €15 million in order to fill the position Rodgers has been waiting all summer to fill.
