Even friendly matches evoke frustration and anger, which can turn out to be quite painful for some. Notts County were playing Galatasaray in a preseason match, and a goal conceded by the lower division side caused Alan Sheehan to try and kick the ball in frustration, instead connecting with his goalkeeper and teammate (Bartosz Bialkowski) in the face.
Notts County actually took a surprising lead in the match through an own goal by Dany Nounkeu, but Burak Yilmaz equalized. Sheehan felt angry about his place in the goal conceded, and tried to vent it by kicking the ball that was just coming off the net. He didn’t notice Bialkowski going down to one knee and try to pick up the ball, which led to the painful encounter.
Galatasaray eventually won the match, as expected, as Wesley Sneijder scored in stoppage time to claim the win.
