Paraguayan Club Olimpia took a huge step towards possibly winning the Copa Libertadores or the third time with a 2-0 win over Atletico Mineiro in the first leg of the final with the Brazilian team, but the most amazing moment of the match might have been Ronaldinho pelted with rocks from the stands, which probably didn’t help the Brazilian side perform to the best of its ability.
Olimpia led 1-0 for most of the match thanks to an Alejandro Silva goal in the 22nd minute. Things took a turn for the worse in Mineiro’s case, as Richarlyson was sent off in the 89th minute, followed by Olimpia scoring a stoppage time goal by Wilson Pittoni.
As Ronaldinho was running to take a hurried corner kick, he noticed two fist-sized rocks next to him after being thrown from the stands. He signaled to the referee and Olimpia players, who made the half-assed attempt at calming down the crowd, while the referee allowed the match to continue despite the clear danger to the players on the pitch.
The second leg will be played in Belo Horizonte on July 24.
