There aren’t that many players who can make an impact left to sign through free agency, which makes Mike Miller clearing the waivers sorta big news, as the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Memphis Grizzlies all trying to add the veteran forward.

According to gogrizzlies.com , Miller is extremely intrigued by the option of going back to Memphis and playing for the Griz, a team that made the conference finals last season and Miller played for from 2003 to 2008, making the postseason three times and enjoying his the best seasons of his career there.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Oklahoma City Thunder are the leading candidates to sign him, but it all seems quite speculative at that point. Miller isn’t a player who falls into the top 8-man rotation for both teams, and shouldn’t be counted on to play more than 15 minutes a night, at best.

Over the last four seasons, playing for the Wizards and the Miami Heat, Miller hasn’t played more than 59 games in a season. Since joining the Heat he has become a bench player, but moving down from somewhat of a sixth man during his first season in Miami to a role player coming off the bench to provide outside shooting over the last two, proving to deliver his best work during the NBA finals series.

All four teams could use someone like that on their squad; Miller was hardly used until the Spurs series, playing an average of 21.9 minutes a night in the finals and starting the last five games. He had a bad shooting night in game 7 (0-5 from the field), but throughout the finals he shot an incredible 61.1% from beyond the arc, proving that leaving him open is something that even at this stage of his career is a huge mistake.
