All alien jokes aside, Baron Davis, who hasn’t played in the NBA in over a year, wants to make a comeback, hoping for a fall-return which will give him a chance to tryout for teams interested in signing the 13-year veteran.
Davis last played in the 2012 NBA playoffs, seriously injuring his knee in game 4 of the playoff series with the Miami Heat. After being taken off the floor, and MRI revealedĀ Ā that Davis completely tore theĀ ACLĀ andĀ MCLĀ and partially tore theĀ patellar tendonĀ in his right knee. As 33, this is the kind of injury that takes you out for a season, and probably ends your career.
But Davis, who isn’t really in-shape to make an impression for anyone now, is eyeing a September or October return, hoping to get some workouts in for teams to show that he’s still a guard worth having on a roster in any role that might be offered to him.
My whole thing is to get in the best shape of my life and by September or October be ready to showcase my talent and try out for whoever I need to try out for,ā he said. āI think the most important thing is being in shape.
Davis played only 29 games for the New York Knicks during his last season, averaging 6.1 points and 4.7 assists per game, the only season in his career aside from his rookie year to average single-digit scoring. At his best, with both the Hornets and the Golden State Warriors, he hovered around the 20 points per game mark with 8 assists per game. He has a career average of 16.1 points and 7.2 assists per game, making two All-Star games and leading the NBA in steals twice.
However, expecting him to do anything more than what he brought to the table as a player for the Knicks in 2012 would be unreasonable. There’s going to be quite a few teams interested in the 34-year old when he makes his return, especially at a minimum contract, but Davis has always struggled with staying fit during his career, missing more than 10 games a season in 8 of his 13.
