NBA Rumors – Golden State Warriors, Portland Trail Blazers & Utah Jazz Interested in Signing Ian Clark

Ian CLark

He didn’t win the MVP of the Summer League in Vegas, but he was the star of the title game. Ian Clark didn’t get too many teams interested in the recent NBA draft, but his performances in July should earn him a deal in the league, with the Golden State Warriors (who he played for), Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz hot on his heels.

The most impressive factor in Clark’s game was his outside shooting, which has become somewhat of an obsession in the NBA recently, especially with the Miami Heat playing with lineups that include four shooters on the floor and it seems that everyone is about spacing and spreading the floor at the moment.

He shot 45.9% from beyond the arc during the tournament (12 games), and according to Jeff Zilgit, that should be his main ticket to finding an NBA contract.

Clark played four seasons with Belmont, truly shining during his senior season, averaging 18.2 points per game. He is one of those combo guards that’s hard to define in NBA terms, probably not good enough as a ball handler at the point guard position, and probably will struggle defensively against bigger shooting guards, although it seems that his performances with other pros has convinced NBA execs he has what it takes to make it in the NBA.

Like many undrafted players who had an impressive college career, Clark is getting plenty of interest from European teams, which might mean more guaranteed money than what anyone in the NBA can offer him. While the dream of most college basketball players is to make it into the best league in the world, money is always a factor worth considering, and considering no one in the NBA will give him anything more than a minimum deal, Clark might choose to go to Europe if the offers are attractive enough there.
