The beginning of training camps have brought on the first season-ending injuries of the season, as the Philadelphia Eagles will have to do without wide receiver Jeremy Maclin while the Baltimore Ravens suffered the same fate with Dennis Pitta, leaving a big hole at the tight end position.

Maclin usually picks up minor injuries, missing a game or two each season, but this is very unfortunate for him as he is entering the fifth season of his rookie contract, meaning it’ll be a lot harder for him to find a team or at least a big contract he might have found easier to come by had he played this season at the level he has shown so far in his career, which is around 850 yards a season.

Maclin tore his ACL during practice, even though these are still no contact drills without pads. He was injured during 7-on-7 drills.

A major blow came upon the Baltimore Ravens as well, as Dennis Pitta, entering his fourth season in the NFL and possibly headed towards a very big year with Anquan Boldin leaving the team, giving the Ravens a huge need for a big target downfield, dislocating his hip.

Pitta has already underwent surgery for the injury, and won’t play a single game for the NFL champions after catching 61 passes for 669 yards and 7 touchdown last season. In the playoffs, Pitta had 14 catches for 163 yards and three scores.. He was hurt when he collided with safety James Ihedigbo in the back of the end zone, trying to reach a pass from Joe Flacco.

With this injury, there’s a good chance the Ravens try and sign Visanthe Shiancoe, who they have already reached out to. Shiancoe played in just four games last season with the Patriots, and did not have any catches. He hasn’t been getting too many offers from anyone since being released.
