It’s far from being confirmed, but news reports from Spain are suggesting that Real Madrid have finally gotten Tottenham to surrender and agree to the sale of Gareth Bale.

According to La Sexta Deportes, no exchange of player was involved, but a “simple” fee payment of £90 million, making Gareth Bale the most expensive soccer player in history, if we’ll actually get to see this confirmed soon.

Furthermore, Bale was signed for six seasons and a salary of €10 million per season with various bonuses included, among them a €6 million bonus for winning the Ballon d’Or.

La Sexta aren’t usually similar to Marca, As, Sport and other Spanish media outlets, and don’t have a habit of releasing news with no substance in them. If these is true, then all the talk of an August meeting in Los Angeles between the sides is rubbished, and so is the option of Tottenham managing to keep Bale on board after the negotiations they’ve been having recently.

Bale, a left back turned into winger, has been playing for Tottenham since 2007, when he was signed as a 17-year old from Southampton for £7 million. He became a more attacking player during the later stages of the 2009-2010 season, and scored a record 21 league goals last season for Spurs, with Andre Villas-Boas credited with his huge breakthrough.

It’s still too early to talk tactics with Real Madrid until the move is actually confirmed by the clubs, but it’s going to very interesting to see how Bale fits in with Cristiano Ronaldo, who is used to playing on the left flank.

Bale can also play in the middle or the right wing, but that means that either Mesut Ozil or Isco, both attacking midfielders with the ability to play in wider positions, will be omitted from the lineup, as it is hard to believe the most expensive player in the world will be part of a rotation.
