The unofficial king of the Panenka penalty kick is Andrea Pirlo, but after missing a penalty kick in the friendly match between Juventus and Everton, a young John Stones stepped up to win the penalty shootout, using the specialty kick that Pirlo performs so well most of the time, stunning the fans and Juve’s goalkeeper, Marco Storari, as well.
In the match itself, part of the Guinness Cup preseason friendlies series, the two teams ended affairs in a 1-1 draw, with Kevin Mirallas scoring for Everton and Kwadwo Asamoah equalizing with a scorcher of a shot.
In the penalty shootout, Andrea Pirlo seemed to be undecided when he stepped up to take his shot, not agreeing with himself on a lob or a shot to the corner, misfiring his touch, sending it wide of the post.
Opposed to that, the 19-year old Stones, who played with the England U-20 side in the World Cup last month, stepped up quite calm and cool, doing what Pirlo usually does in that situation, as Everton claimed the win with a classy finish.
