Antawn Jamison

It seems like Antawn Jamison isn’t still a free agent because of lack of interest. The Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Charlotte Bobcats have all shown some interest in signing him. However, the 15-year veteran doesn’t want to rush into things like he did last season.

It seems like his first and only season with the Los Angeles Lakers left a painful mark on his memory. Jamison was sure he was going to be contending for a ring, and instead found himself on a dysfunctional team that barely made the postseason.

He didn’t like his role on the team, and didn’t really get along with Mike D’Antoni and his offensive system. All of these bad recent memories have left Jamison a little wary of his next job, but mostly patient and doing a bit more research before he makes up his mind.

I think last year, getting the opportunity to play for the Lakers and their organization, I really jumped into it. Didn’t really view my options, but this year I really want to make sure I’m going to the right situation, where I have a good rapport with the coaching staff and also with management I’m able to communicate and get an understanding of what they want from me.

Jamison prefers being in a situation where he can contend for an NBA title, or at least not feel the depression of being on a losing team, which he has seen plenty of during his NBA career. He didn’t like playing only 21.5 minutes a night (and that was with all the injuries to Howard and Gasol), averaging 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds, his worst numbers since his rookie season.

At 37, Jamison can still be a go-to-guy off the bench, shooting 36.1% from beyond the arc and adding some decent rebounding but especially some quickfire scoring during the minutes he’s going to be on the floor. However, he’s not being fooled by every shiny offer being made to him, and wants to be on a team he knows fits his style, is going to win lots of games (sorry, Bobcats) and will probably make him more than just a marginal player.
