Neymar Scores His Debut Goal On the First Start (Thailand vs Barcelona)

In what should be the first of many, Neyamr didn’t wait very long in the 7-1 win by Barcelona over Thailand in another easy friendly for the La Liga champions, scoring his first ever goal in his new uniform, needing only 13 minutes to get on the scoresheet.

This doesn’t mean anything about Neymar’s future at the club and his chances of becoming a hit or bust for Barcelona on his first season in European football, but they say the ice breaker is always the hardest one, even if it wasn’t an official match for the Brazilian, getting to start for his new club for the first time.

As expected, the action was mostly near the Thailand goal, as Barcelona led 5-1 at half time before adding two more in the second half. Pedro finished with a hat trick, while Lionel Messi scored twice, one of them off a penalty kick and the other off another “classic” Barcelona play of taking a free kick early. Alexis Sanchez added the 7th goal, while Thai star Teerasil Dangda scored the only goal for Thailand, also a penalty kick.

Barcelona begin the season on August 18, playing against Levante at the Camp Nou. Three days later they will play Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Supercoppa at the Vicente Calderon, with the second leg and the decider for the first title of the season being played a week later at the Camp Nou.
