NBA Rumors – Washington Wizards Closest to Signing Al Harrington

Al Harrington

There’s been plenty of interest around the NBA in Al Harrington, but it seems like the Washington Wizards are the closest team to signing the veteran big man, who can hopefully still provide the offense and long range shooting he’s been known for during his NBA career.

The Wizards have four players, including Nene, Trevor Booker, Chris Singleton and Jan Vesley who can play the power forward position, but none of them actually have the ability to stretch the floor like Harrington, who is a 35.2% career shooter from beyond the arc.

Harrington hardly played last season for the Orlando Magic, showing up for only 10 games, averaging 11.9 minutes a night. However, the season before that, he wasn’t far from winning the league’s Sixth Man award, averaging 14.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game coming off the bench for the Nuggets.

Harrington declared that he’s looking to be on a team that’s going to win, but that didn’t necessarily mean a title contender. With him being only 33, it doesn’t feel, to him at least, like there’s only one year left in the tank for him. The Wizard haven’t been to the postseason since 2008, but it seems like their rebuilding project has hit the phase in which they’re going to make the playoffs this year as long as John Wall plays like he did after coming back from his injury last season.

Harrington has been getting looks from all across the NBA, but it looks like the Wizards are the team showing the most interest and seriousness in adding him to their playoff push, potentially making him the 15th player on their roster. We’ve also heard about the Clippers, Bulls and Heat, among others, reaching out or thinking about doing so, and yet nothing has materialized in more “title contender” kind of directions.

Harrington claims to have lost over 27 pounds during his rehab and is working out to go down even further. If he’s indeed back in peak shape, there’s no reason he won’t be playing for at least two more seasons in the NBA.
