Arsenal FC Transfer Rumors – Trying to Sign Michu

Michu

The pressure on Arsenal to make an impressive signing this summer keeps growing with the season on the verge of starting, and so they turn to Swansea City and the biggest surprise of last season, Spanish forward Michu.

Michu himself was quite productive last season against Arsenal, scoring three times in four matches as he shocked the Premier League with an impressive debut season of 18 league goals and helping Swansea find European qualification for the first time in history, winning the League Cup.

Arsenal have enough trouble at the moment due to injuries, with only 11 senior players fully fit for their opening match this weekend, but the pressure and urgency to make a signing isn’t because of that. With the team constantly talking about becoming more than what they’ve settled for over the last few years, bringing in a forward who can be relied upon to score goals seems like a crucial achievement to accomplish.

According to the Cadena Ser, Arsenal haven’t approached Swansea yet, but they’re considering laying off the Luiz Suarez angle for now, seeing it as something of a lost cause and too expensive at this point.

However, Swansea might not have the pride of Liverpool at their side, but they should be just as reluctant to sell Michu, hoping the Spaniard proves this season that he is much more than a one-season wonder, and that their team can do more than finish around the mid-table of the Premier League. Anything less than £25-30 million won’t really inrigue Swansea into selling their star player, especially after adding Wilfried Bony to be his partner at the front.

For Arsenal, it seems that it has become a case of trying to reach at anything before it’s too late. They’ve been slow and cumbersome in most of their approaches, letting players like Higuain slip away and focusing too much on unattainable targets. Eventually, Arsene Wenger will make a signing or maybe more, but there’s a good chance it’ll be out of panic, and not necessarily the right one.
