After so many penalty kicks missed, Stoke still believe in Jonathan Walters. Or maybe their new manager, Mark Hughes, hasn’t watched enough of him in previous seasons. Seeing him miss another one, this time against Liverpool, as his shot was stopped by Simon Mignolet, shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Walters had the chance to give Stoke their fourth draw in six seasons at Anfield against Liverpool, as his team was handed a penalty kick due to a handball by Daniel Agger with two minutes left in the match, as Liverpool were leading 1-0.
Walters shot left, Mignolet dives in the right direction, and the rebound was missed by Kenwyne Jones, as Mignolet proved a quick rebounding ability against the Trinidad & Tobago striker.
Walters is Stoke’s top scorer from last season with 11 goals, but after scoring two own goals and missing a penalty kick, you’d think someone else might be given a chance to prove their metal from the spot. Once again, Walters, who didn’t shoot that badly, cost Stoke points against a big club they rarely get a chance to beat, especially away from home.
