It seems that Liverpool have been chasing left backs all summer long, but if reports coming out of Spain are genuine, their wait is over, with Aly Cissokho of Valencia on the verge of being signed.
According to Cadena Ser, Valencia chairman Amadeo Salvo has pretty much confirmed that Cissokho is about to undergo a medical at Liverpool, and if all goes well, the French defender should be joining the Reds, and Brendan Rodgers will finally have his competitor for Jose Enrique’s starting position.
Unless there is a problem with the medical review, which will happen on Sunday, Cissokho is a Liverpool player.
Liverpool aren’t going to purchase the left back, who is valued at £5.5 million. Liverpool don’t feel like spending too much money on a player they’re not confident will be a part of the team in a long-term kind of look, but a loan deal is probably the agreement between the sides.
Cissokho has had his problems with injuries in the past, but the 25-year old and Liverpool are hoping that those are behind him. He played 25 times from Valencia last season after arriving from Lyon early in the season, scoring twice and adding two assists. He also played 7 times for Valencia in the Champions League, before getting knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16.
Jose Enrique is as solid as anyone can be at his starting position at left back, but Liverpool had a big problem last season when he was injured last season, forcing them to use Glen Johsnon at the position. This year, one of the things Rodgers has been quite relentless at his search for young players who can improve the depth of his squad, feeling that he has pretty much enough quality in the lineup, but his backup situation is what needs most of the attention.
