Arsenal FC Transfer Rumors – Trying to Sign Kolbeinn Sigth贸rsson

Kolbeinn Sigthorsson

It seems that the pressure on Arsenal to bring in new signings is pushing them to become a lot more active in the final two weeks of the transfer market, turning their attention to聽Kolbeinn Sigth贸rsson, the talented Icelandic striker from Ajax.

Sigthorsson made quite a few headlines over the weekend after scoring two goals for Ajax in their huge rivalry match against Feyenoord, winning 2-1. He has been with Ajax since 2011, scoring 16 goals in 32 matches for the club since arriving from AZ, where he did quite well during his only season with the team, scoring 15 goals in 32 matches.

According to the聽Corriere dello Sport and Voetbal Zone, Arsenal haven’t made a bid for the player yet, but it seems that with everyone quite convinced that Arsenal need a striker to help them after a disappointing start to the season (And frankly a lot before that as well), Sigthorsson becomes a close to ideal signing for them, or at least somewhat of a panicky one that makes sense when Wenger is trying to add any player at all to quell down the justified criticism of him.

The problem will be with Arsenal not that eager to spend money, as their obvious failed bid for Yohan Cabaye was destined to fail from the start, low balling Newcastle, knowing that their first bid will be rejected. Sigthorsson was signed from AZ for聽拢3.5 million, and they’re unlikely to be giving him up for anything less than聽拢7 million and possibly more.

It’s also the case of Ajax, and most of Europe, already done adding and reducing from their squad. Ajax will find it very difficult to replace Sigthorsson if they actually sell him at this point, which should make it a lot harder for Arsenal to come up with the right offer to actually sign the striker, and will probably have to look for someone else to sign.
