It’s interesting to see that Chelsea have no intention of stopping to fill the positions that play behind the striker, no matter how many forwards or attacking midfielders they already have. It might mean that someone is going to be sold, but it’s also worth mentioning that they aren’t done buying, now showing a desire to sign Christian Atsu from Porto.
It’s worth mentioning that we’ve seen Liverpool already make some inquiry about the player with the Portuguese champions, but being turned down in their attempts to sign the left winger.
According to SSN, Chelsea, who already have Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Kevin de Bruyne, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, Victor Moses and the possible arrival of Willian (apperantly waiting for his work permit to come through), are now also interesting in the 21-year old Ghanaian winger, who has already appeared 16 times for the national team, but has yet to find a regular place in the Porto lineup so far in his career.
It’s hard seeing Atsu becoming a regular member of the Mourinho rotation if they actually manage to sign him. He’s valued at €6 million, but Porto players never come that cheaply. However, the fact that his contract runs out in June might mean we’ll actually see Porto selling someone without making an insane profit for them and the third-side party.
Atsu has made 44 appearances so far in his career for both Porto (17 last season) and Rio Ave, where he was loaned to after coming through the Porto youth system, scoring a total of 7 goals and adding 5 assists so far in his career. He has yet to play for Porto this season so far in both their league matches, which means there’s a good chance he isn’t fetured predominantly in their plans.
The question about Chelsea? Not just who will be the one to ask to leave considering the amount of players competing for three spots behind the striker, but why would they sign Atsu who hasn’t shown anything special during his club appearances with Porto up to this point in his career?
