After waiting for a very long time to find a second wide receiver to compliment Andre Johnson in the passing game, the Houston Texans and Matt Schaub are thankful for rookie DeAndre Hopkins, who made himself noticeable with a touchdown in overtime to keep the team perfect this season so far.

Johnson left the game after he was roughed up in the fourth quarter, Hopkins was there to fill in, and had a huge day in general with 7 catches for 117 yards, as the Texans pulled off a 30-24 win in overtime, coming back from a 24-16 deficit thanks to a touchdown by Arian Foster with less than two minutes left in the game, sending it to overtime.

Matt Schaub continued to mess up, throwing two interceptions, but he did make up for it with a perfect throw to Hopkins in overtime for the 3 yard touchdown play, enjoying a very strong running performance from both Foster (coming back with 79 yards on 19 carries) and Ben Tate, once again looking like someone who could easily be the feature back, running for 93 yards on 9 carries.

The Texans are the first team since the merger in 1970 to win each of their first 2 games of a season on the final play of the game, following their field goal as time expired against the Chargers in week 1. The thing about luck is that it runs out at some point, and it’s still debatable whether or not Houston have what it takes to be more than just a very good regular season team.

The Titans have a strong defense this season, a solid running game with Chris Johnson (96 yards on 25 carries) but a quarterback who still doesn’t seem to be good enough in order to win games that are set up for him to take over. Jake Locker finished with 17-of-30 for 148 yards and a couple of touchdowns, but the Titans needed more from him in the opportunities they had to finish the game off.

The Texans enjoyed big days from their two defensive stars, as Brian Cushing and J.J. Watt each finished with 2 sacks. Against the Titans, the pass-rush seemed to work fine, but the Texans should be worried against teams that do slightly better against the pressure, and put up a sterner test to their questionable secondary.

But shortly after wins its better to focus on what worked, which was especially Hopkins, the rookie out of Clemson, catching his first touchdown pass as a pro, following a 66-yard debut against the Chargers. For him, there was no better way to announce he’s here by scoring a touchdown in overtime.

Anytime I see a one-on-one, that’s a wide receiver’s dream. He put it in the perfect position for me to go up and catch it. We practice that basically every day and practice makes perfect.

If Johnson shakes off his injury quickly, the Texans are positioned to have what is possibly the best situation at wide receiver they’ve ever had. If their secondary is really up to the tests ahead, they just might be worthy of inclusion when talking about Super Bowl teams.
