Getting a red card can be quite a traumatic experience for certain players, but Timo Letschert of Groningen fainted because he got clipped in the head by the boot of Lucaino Slagveer, the player he viciously tackled earning him the sent off, which caused him to lose conciseness after the tackle.
It was a rough and rowdy match between Heerenveen and Groningen, ending in a 4-2 win for Heerenveen, who also had a player sent off after twenty minutes, probably because the referee felt like he had to compensate for the borderline red he gave to Letschert.Groningen had another player sent off after two yellow cards after 78 minutes.
Letschert went in dangerously on Salgveer, but very few referees would have actually used the red, especially so early in the match (11 minutes in). As Slagveer leaped over him, he hit Letschert in the head. The adrenaline and shock from the tackle took time to sink in for the young defender, but when every settled down he passed out and had to be carried off the field.
