A terrible match from Real Madrid doesn’t end in a loss against Elche because Cesar Muniz Fernandez delivered one of the worst officiating performances we’ve seen in a very long time, giving a penalty kick for a foul that didn’t happen, falling, or wanting to fall, for Pepe actually committing a foul on Carlos Sanchez in the Elche box, well beyond the end of stoppage time, giving Cristiano Ronaldo the chance to look like a winner.
It was probably Real Madrid’s worst match of the season, in which Elche looked like the better team and more dangerous for most of the match. Real Madrid barely found ways into the Elche box, but found the net early in the second half thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo free kick, and some terrible goalkeeping from Manu Herrera.
But Elche deserved a goal and got it; as Richmond Boaky, a loanee from Juventus, scored in the 90th minute after some very poor defending from Alvaro Arbeloa. Pepe and Sergio Ramos were a bit too slow, but it was Arbeloa that was the main man responsible for the equalizer, that would have put Real Madrid four points behind Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
But Cesar Muniz Fernandez is a unique referee, and he decided to add three minutes, but let the match carry on for almost six, as Real Madrid won another corner. In that corner, Carlos Sanchez and Pepe were too close to each other to make a decision. Pepe dragged Sanchez down, making it look like he was actually fouled. Fernandez made the wrong decision, giving Real Madrid the penalty, and a win that reeks of corruption.
The match ended with a huge mess on the pitch, thanks to the horrible refereeing of Fernandez, who sent off Sanchez after the final whistle for a second yellow card, as if to justify the mistake he made in the first place.
