The special thing about Cristiano Ronaldo is his ability to score goals despite his team going through rough patches, playing badly and what not. Scoring the first two in Real Madrid’s 4-0 win over FC Copenhagen, he has now improved to 55 goals in the Champions League, fourth on the all-time list.

Both goals in the win came from headers – the first after a high and long Marcelo cross, as Ronaldo positioned himself on the far post to beat the Copenhagen goalkeeper, giving Real Madrid the lead. The second came in the second half after a cheeky heel from Karim Benzema, followed by a beautiful rabona assist from Angel di Maria as Ronaldo positioned himself at the near post to make it 2-0.

So far this season, Ronaldo has scored 11 goals in all competitions, including five in the Champions League despite only playing two matches, obviously leading the scoring charts of the competition. The Portuguese star is fourth on the all-time list, one goal behind Ruud van Nistelrooy, six behind Lionel Messi who is currently nursing an injury and 16 behind Raul, the all-time leader.

While it looks almost certain that Messi will be the first to beat Raul’s record, Ronaldo should also be able to eclipse the Real Madrid legend, and in a few years possibly break every other record Raul set during his time with Real Madrid.
