Maybe until he doesn’t win a second Serie A title with AS Roma and become the greatest scorer in league history, Francesco Totti won’t retire. A brace in the clinical 3-0 win over Inter, he led his team to carry on with their perfect start, while pushing himself closer to the seemingly unreachable Silvio Piola.
Seven matches into the new season, and Roma have conceded only one goal so far. Even a more dominant Inter team couldn’t pierce through the incredible armor fo the only perfect team in Europe’s top leagues (there is Standard Liege in Belgium with an incredible start as well), as Totti scored twice to open the match, making it three goals for him this season.
But there is more going on than just Totti and his never ending quest to become the greatest player in Serie A history. There’s the amazing Gervinho, who didn’t score, but set up the first goal, won the penalty kick that Totti converted and looks like a completely different player than the one who failed at Arsenal.
There’s the midfield of Kevin Strootman and Miralem Pjanic, being maybe the biggest reason for Roma’s fantastic defense. Strootman also set up the third goal in the 44th minute, leading a counter attack (That began with Totti), finding Alessandro Florenzi for his fourth goal of the season.
Roma ended the match with 10 men (Federico Balzaretti getting sent off), but it didn’t stop Roma from feeling more confident than ever as they left the San Siro with a huge 3-0 win, not only keeping them perfect and on top of the Serie A, ahead of Napoli and Juventus who play tomorrow, but with another offensive and defensive performance to be proud of en route to an unthinkable season.
