The Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves in a jam, but got out of it with some big hitting early on from Carl Crawford and very late from Juan Uribe to give them a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves, clinching the divisional series, while some were left wondering why the best reliever in Baseball, Craig Kimbrel, wasn’t used.

Crawford hit two home runs on his first two at bats in the game, but the Dodgers had to wait till the 8th inning to score again, as Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer off of David Carpenter to win the game. In between there was a strong performance from Clayton Kershaw, coming off a very short rest to pitch 6 innings, striking out six and allowing just three hits and two runs, while Kenley Jansen closed the deal with three quick strikeouts in the ninth inning.

Kimbrel wasn’t even an option to go in after Yaisel Puig hit a lead-off double in the 8th with the game still in Braves control, leading 3-2. Kimbrel can pitch two innings, but the Braves’ manager, Fredi Gonzalez, wasn’t even thinking of putting him in before a save opportunity for a maximum of four innings. Instead, the game blew up in his face.

This makes it six consecutive divisional series the Braves have lost, dating back to 2002, with their last three losses coming in four games. They also lost in the National Wild Card game last season against the Cardinals.

For the Dodgers, this is exactly where they expected to be with such an expensive team, filled with game changers and big-time hitters. Carl Crawford wanted to be aggressive right from the start, and he continued his strong form from the Dodgers incredible summer, putting behind his injury problems from earlier on.

Uribe was the big surprise, due to the disappointing time he’s had with the Dodgers since joining them from the Giants. After a rough first couple of years, this one was quite different, but still, he needed a big moment like this series-winning home run to put all those doubts in himself and those coming from others behind him.

This moment today, I’ll never forget. I think a lot of people feel like that. I felt bad when I didn’t play good. Sometimes when you don’t play good people don’t remember you. People forget. That’s just the way the game is.

If the Dodgers do get their happy ending to this season, no one is going to forget Uribe and what he did for this team.
