David Moyes Can’t Stop Failing (Manchester United vs Southampton)

Manchester United can’t catch a break, but they also can’t seem to actually play well at home, being outclassed by a tactical, smart and aggressive Southampton team, rewarded for their efforts by a late equalizer from Dejan Lovren, who was excellent almost all day long by marking Robin van Persie, who escaped one time too many to score the opening goal in the 1-1 draw.

Eight matches into the new season, and Manchester United only have one home match this season, and that was against Crystal Palace, possibly the weakest team in the league. All the hope that a surprise like Adnan Januzaj will be able to mask the problems Manchester United have on defense and midfield and on the sidelines (Moyes is one big problem) was erased against Southampton, who showed once again they belong, right now, to be one of the top teams in the Premier League.

There were probably 10 good minutes in each half for Manchester United, making the most of their good streak to score the only goal of the match, as Robin van Persie picked off the scarps from the mess Wayne Rooney made inside the Manchester United box. Wayne Rooney later sent the ball to the crossbar, but that was about it from Manchester United in the first half.

Two months into the new season, Manchester United have picked up only four points in four home matches.

Adam Lallana, Steven Davis and Morgan Schneiderlin were fantastic in the middle of the pitch, having a one-man advantage at almost every moment against a tired Michael Carrick and the always disappointing Marouane Fellaini, who Moyes should know isn’t very effective as a holding midfielder, something he hasn’t played for Everton over the last couple of years.

Lallana was the one who helped Lovren score the equalizing goal, as he blocked David de Gea during the corner kick, preventing the Spanish goalkeeper from reacting to the action in the box. For all the central defenders Alex Ferguson has purchased over the last few years, none of them seem good enough when compared with Nemanja Vidic, who is sorely missed each time he can’t play.
