Top 5 Most Hated Players in the NFL

Top 5 Most Hated Players in the NFL

People love the NFL, but they also spend a lot of time hating football players. As always, in the annual poll to uncover who gets the most hatred, the names of Michael Vick, Ndamukong Suh and Mark Sanchez come up, while newcomer and rookie Manti Te’o brings somewhat of a refreshing case, getting points for things he did even before he entered the league.

The survey reached 1,100 people and was conducted by E-Poll Market Research, released first by Forbes.com.

5 – Mark Sanchez, New York Jets

Mark Sanchez

There’s a very good chance Mark Sanchez won’t play another football game for the New York Jets, and maybe not even start ever for another NFL team. However, being the face of the Jets in previous years is never good for your overall popularity, and playing badly over the last two or three seasons didn’t help as well, making him the fifth most dislikes NFL player.

4 – Ben Roethilsberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger

It’s not so much about Roethlisberger being the starter for the Steelers over the last 10 years, taking them to three Super Bowls and winning two rings. It’s mostly about his off-field persona, which includes getting himself involved in two sexual allegation cases. The chargers never made it to court, but but he was suspended under the league’s personal conduct policy in 2010 and settled a civil lawsuit in one of the cases in 2012.

3 – Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions

Ndamukong Suh

Actually someone hated for his on-field behavior and nothing else. Defensive tackles don’t usually get much face-time on television, but Suh is notorious for being one of the dirtiest players in the NFL, being suspended/cautioned/fined for more than a combined $200,000.

2 – Manti Te’o, San Diego Chargers

Manti Te'o

Te’o actually gets all the “love” because of his four years in college, and especially how everything ended. First, simply playing for Notre Dame and starring for the Irish on a team that went undefeated until the national title game causes some over exposure and subsequent hate. The girlfriend hoax, which it’s not quite clear if he was in or not, finished the job, making Te’o a very unpopular figure before he played his first NFL game.

1 – Michael Vick, Philadelphia Eagles

Michael Vick

Michael Vick being hated doesn’t have anything to do with his salary (well, maybe slightly) or his ability playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. It comes down to Vick running a dog-fighting operation at his house while playing for the Atlanta Falcons, which landed him in jail. It’s been quite a while since he’s been out, but it’s unlikely he’ll see too much forgiveness from the general public.
