The biggest match of the Champions League night turned out to be Borussia Dortmund joining Arsenal at the top of the group of death with a 2-1 win at the Emirates, while the AC Milan and Barcelona rivalry produced a very dull 1-1 draw at the San Siro in a result that was very pleasing for both teams.
Atletico Madrid had an easy win in Austria (3-0 over Austria Wien), remaining perfect and pretty much securing their spot in the next round. Napoli, with a win in Marseille, means there’s a three-way tie at the top of the best group in the Champions League this season.
Group E
A huge win for Chelsea as they take control of the group with a very impressive 3-0 win over the injured Schalke, which also included somewhat of a redemptive effort from Fernando Torres, scoring twice and getting a third from Eden Hazard. In Romania, Steaua Bucharest enjoyed a late equalizer from Leandro Angelo Martins to give them a 1-1 draw against Basel, who scored first through Marcelo Diaz with a wonderful goal.

Group F
The group of death got quite complicated, with a surprising 2-1 win for Borussia Dortmund in London against Arsenal, despite the home sides being the dominant side for most of the match. Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored first but Arsenal equalized through Olivier Giroud. Robert Lewandowski scored the winner on Dortmund’s only chance of the second half. Napoli kept Marseille at 0 points with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Jose Maria Callejon and Duvan Zapata (best of the round), too much for Andre Ayew to make a difference.

Atletico Madrid pretty much completed the job with a 3-0 win over Austria Wien away from home, making it a perfect 3-from-3 so far. Diego Costa with a brace and a Raul Garcia goal put Atletico Madrid in the next round. Zenit surprised Porto with a 1-0 win in Portugal through a 86th minute goal from Alexandr Kerzhakov.

Celtic got their first points in the group with a 2-1 win over Ajax, despite playing with 10 men late in the match. James Forrest and Biram Kayal scored for the home side; Lasse Schøne scored a late goal that didn’t matter. Barcelona dominated, as expected, at the San Siro against AC Milan, but couldn’t muster more than a 1-1 draw. Robinho scored first for the home side, but Lionel Messi, as always, equalized.
