Luis Suarez Perfect in Curse Breaking (Liverpool vs WBA)

The most unusual bit in the 4-1 win for Liverpool over West Brom? They were actually enjoyable to watch for more than one half. Luis Suarez scored a hat trick, including two goals with his head, and Daniel Sturridge added another one so he’d stay ahead in the goal scoring charts, to break their team’s “curse” against the Baggies in recent years.

And it was one of those matches that seemed to be over before it even began. A wonderful Luis Suarez nutmeg set himself up for the first goal, serving as something of a starter’s pistol to Liverpool’s most complete performance this season. West Brom might not be exactly Champions League material, but they have one of the best defenses in the Premier League, at least up until before the match.

The second goal was probably the most memorable of them; Suarez connecting with a Aly Cissokho cross (his best match for the team since arriving) to score a header from the edge of the box. His third goal to give Liverpool a 3-0 lead 10 minutes into the second half was once again with the head, this time finishing a cross from Steven Gerrard.

West Brom did score a penalty kick to ruin Mignolet a clean sheet, but Daniel Sturridge had to put one past Myhill once more, scoring a beautiful lob from outside the box, making it 8 goals in nine matches for him this season, making sure Suarez doesn’t get too close to him in the early race for the golden boot.

Like Arsenal, who remain at the top of the table, Liverpool have mostly faced competition from the lower half of the table. However, after so many years of being left out of the race, this encouraging start, powered by the returning Luis Suarez with six goals in four matches, is impossible to ignore.
