The best match of the weekend was the Merseyside derby, as Everton and Liverpool finished their match in a 3-3 draw, but that only allowed Arsenal to open a four point lead at the top of the table after a 2-0 win over Southampton, and Chelsea moving up to second place due to their 3-0 win over West Ham.
A bit lower down the table, Newcastle continue their impressive run to the higher reaches of the Premier League after yet another win (2-1 over Norwich), while the problems for both Fulham and Sunderland continue with losses to Swansea and Stoke respectively.
Everton 3 Liverpool 3: A fantastic match and a lot more open and attacking than most Merseyside derbies. Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring with a close range tap in before Kevin Mirallas equalized. A brilliant Luis Suarez free kick gave Liverpool the lead again, and somehow Mirallas wasn’t sent off for a vicious foul on the Uruguayan. A Romelu Lukaku double put Everton in the lead, but who else but Daniel Sturridge scored a late equalizer.
Stoke 2 Sunderland 0: Stoke get a rare win this season, further deepening the woes of Sunderland, who suffered from a terrible decision to send off Wes Brown despite doing absolutely nothing wrong with a clean tackle. Charlie Adam and Steven Nzonzi, the man of the match, scored for the home side.
Newcastle 2 Norwich 1: The news of Mike Ashley looking to sell the club coincide with the brilliant form by the Magpies, enjoying early goals from Loic Remy and Yoan Gouffran, way before Leroy Fer scored a late goal that didn’t mean anything.
Hull City 0 Crystal Palace 1: The road to Premier League salvation begins for Crystal Palace, winning for only the second time this season, as Barry Bannan scored the winner only three minutes after his teammate Yannick Bolasie was sent off.
Fulham 1 Swansea 2: The immense pressure on Martin Jol continues, as Fulham lost at home once again, this time to the unpredictable Welsh side. Aaron Hughes scored the own goal that opened the scoring, but Scott Parker equalized. However, Jonjo Shelvey brought home the winner 10 minutes from the end.
Arsenal 2 Southampton 0: The league leaders didn’t impress against a very stubborn Saints side. Olivier Giroud struck twice to keep the Gunners above the rest while the team’s defense gave one of its best performances in quite some time.
West Ham 0 Chelsea 3: Back into the title race with an impressive win in one of the London derbies. Frank Lampard might not be playing well, but he did score twice, including one from the penalty spot, and Oscar himself added another goal with an impressive finish after a nice team play.
Manchester City 6 Tottenham 0: Big wins don’t mean anything in the long run, but it was another demonstration of just how good Manchester City are at home and what a bad job AVB is doing right now in White Hart Lane. Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas each scored twice in a masterclass.
Cardiff 2 Manchester United 2: A fantasitc performance by Frazier Campbell before he left for cramps on a huge effort for him was enough to help the home side get an important point, twice coming back from behind. Wayne Rooney, who should have been sent off, scored the opening goal before Campbell’s equalizer. Patrice Evra scored just before half time, but a terrible United second half allowed a 90th minute goal by Bo-Kyung Kim.
