Sometimes bad luck hits you from two directions at once, which was what Mauricio Molina, a Colombian player from FC Seoul must have felt in his encounter with both a punch from an opposing goalkeeper and a headbutt from a defender in a match against Busan IPark.
The K-League match between the two teams didn’t have anything extraordinary about it except for his horrific few minutes which began with Molina rising to meet with a cross. The goalkeeper he faced tried to clear the ball with a punch, instead hitting Molina in the head. At the exact same time, a defender trying to clear the ball with his head missed it, instead hitting Molina.
The result? The 33-year old Colombian was lying unconscious on the pitch, while his wife seemed absolutely horrified and terrified in the stands. It took a few minutes to wake him up, but Molina has recovered from the frightening bit, tweeting after the match that Now I feel fine and I’m resting at home pending further evaluations.
Molina, 33, has been a huge success in Seoul, probably one of the final stops in a career that began in 1998 with Envigado in Colombia. He has played most of his career in his home country, but has also had stints with Al Ain in the UAE, San Lorenzo in Argentina, Red Star Belgrade and also Santos before reaching Seoul, which has also been his most successful stop.
