A story of those going up and those going down, as Liverpool were the big winners in the race to catch up with Arsenal, beating West Ham comfortably with more goals from Luis Suarez, while both Chelsea (losing at Stoke) and Manchester City (drawing at Southampton) dropped vital points. Still, most of the news was made in the day’s first match at Old Trafford, as Manchester United lost at home again, this time 1-0 to Newcastle.

While the crisis for David Moyes and Manchester United gets even worse, the Magpies are doing extremely well and look much closer to competing for a European spot than the team they’ve just beat. A bit lower down the table, big wins for Norwich and Crystal Palace make their situation a little more bearable.

Manchester United 0  Newcastle 1: What used to be shocking is becoming the normal and expected. Manchester United look clueless and dijointed while David Moyes stares on in disbelief as his team fails to dominate the midfield or create too many meaningful chances at home, while Newcastle look organized, disciplined and smart, taking advantage of one Yohan Cabaye strike to make it two consecutive home losses for the Red Devils, facing a crisis they haven’t seen in a very long time.

Crystal Palace 2  Cardiff 0: The impressive run of results for Palace continues, now feeling like they can touch the place above the relegation zone. Tony Pulis is doing a good job, at least this week, with two consecutive home wins, dominating against the visitors from Wales, getting another goal from the rampaging Marouane Chamakh and a second from Cameron Jerome.

Liverpool 4  West Ham 1: The Hammers never do well when they visit Anfield, and their latest visit was no different. Liverpool struck twice through a Guy Demel own goal right before half time and then again when the second half opened through Mamadou Sakho. Immense pressure didn’t bring a goal, but after a wake up call by a Martin Skrtel own goal Luis Suarez returned to his scoring ways, netting two more goals, making it five this week and 15 this season.

Southampton 1  Manchester City 1: Thinking they’ve broken the away-game curse, Manchester City looked to cruise against a slumping Southampton side thanks to an early strike from Sergio Aguero, the second hottest forward in the Premier League. However, a brilliant equalizer by Pablo Osvaldo before half time put the reins in Southampton’s side, playing better through the second half, but are now four matches without a win.

Stoke 3  Chelsea 2: Jose Mourinho is struggling to pick up points away from home as another disastrous display from his defense and midfield. Things started well with a wonderful goal by Andre Schurrle, but Peter Crouch and Stephen Ireland turned things around. Shcurrle scored his second goal right after Ireland’s lead-maker, but a beautiful 90th minute goal by Oussama Assaidi, on loan from Liverpool, kept the win at the Britannia Stadium.

West Brom 0  Norwich 2: A rough day at Anfield turned into a surprising win at the Hawthorns. West Brom created countless opportunities, taking 27 shots at goal, but Norwich came with a rare road victory thanks to a powerful early strike from Gary Hooper and a clinical counter attack finish from Leroy Fer.

Sunderland 1  Tottenham 2: Suddenly Andre Villas-Boas isn’t such a bad manager, and Spurs’ season doesn’t seem that bad. They climb back to fifth with a precious away win over the sinking (again) Sunderland, showing quite a lot of reselience and poise. Adam Johnson scored first for the Black Cats, but a goal from Paulinho and an own goal from John O’Shea brought Spurs their second consecutive win.
