When it comes to team efficiency, you usually find the Miami Heat with LeBron James, the Indiana Pacers with Paul George or the West’s best, Portland Trail Blazers. However, when it comes to the best lineups in the league – most efficient in terms of both offense and defense or the lineup that puts on the best shooting numbers, look no further than what the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors have to offer.

And the worse? As a team, the Cavs, Bucks , Jazz and Nets post some awful numbers, but it’s quite surprising to see the Oklahoma City Thunder have their starting lineup perform worse than anyone else.

Most Efficient Lineup

The Houston Rockets, turns out, have the best starting five in the NBA in terms of net efficiency rating, with a net rating of +23.3 between this 5’s offensive efficiency and its defensive efficiency. Who are the fab five? No Jeremy Lin, no Omer Asik. Apparently, statistically, the Houston Rockets are at their best when Patrick Beverley, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Dwight Howard and Terrence Jones are on the floor. Lin playing a lot of time with the subs might have something to do with it, but it’s not surprising to see Asik out of the picture.

Best Shooting Lineup

No surprise here – the Golden State Warriors. The lineup that includes Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, David Lee and Andrew Bogut post a true shooting of 63.6%, with the Rockets being the closest team to them with the lineup we mentioned above, shooting four percent worse than this Warriors lineup.

The problem for the Warriors right now happens to be Iguodala being injured. With Harrison Barnes on the floor in this group of five, the Warriors have a net rating of -7.4 and has dropped in true shooting eight full percentage points.

And the Worse Lineup Is…

The Oklahoma City Thunder might be the hottest team in the league (winning 11 of 12), but it’s not because of the lineup they start games with. The group of Russell Westbrook, Thabo Sefolosha, Kevin Durant, Serge Ibaka and Kendrick Perkins ranks last in the NBA when it comes to offensive efficiency (only 93.1 per 100 possessions), with a net rating of -10.2. This very same lineup posted a +12.3 net rating last season, which means it should get better for them, but usually Reggie Jackson or Jeremy Lamb play during the final minutes.
