A big day for everyone near the top of the table that isn’t called Arsenal, with Manchester City beating the Gunners quite decisively at the Etihad, where they are the best in the Premier League. Chelsea, beating Crystal Palace, were another team that enjoyed this result immensely despite not playing very well in their win.
Everton, climbing up to fourth, are another team making the most of the top side losing, cementing their spot (For now) in the top 4 with another impressive footballing display, beating Fulham who look like they’re destined to end in the Championship when this season ends.
Manchester City 6 Arsenal 3: A win that doesn’t take Arsenal off the top spot, but quite strongly shakes the foundation of what they’ve done this season, defeated on the road for a second time in Manchester this season. Sergio Aguero scored the opener, and Theo Walcott equalized. Alvaro Negredo and Fernandinho created enough seperation for Theo Walcott’s second goal not to matter too much, before Fernandinho (again), Yaya Toure and David Silva finished the job.
Cardiff 1 West Brom 0: Two teams in terrible form, but West Brom continue to sink, finding themselves very close to the relegation zone, something no one expected. Peter Wittingham made the difference with his goal, while Shane Long was the unlucky figure of the match with his misses and a penalty call he deserved but didn’t get.
Chelsea 2 Crystal Palace 1: Fernando Torres (!!!) netted his second Premier League goal of the season — the fifth by a Chelsea striker and his first since his winner in the October defeat of Manchester City — after 16 minutes. Crystal Palace quickly equalized through the red hot Marouane Chamakh, but Ramires gave the leads finally to the home side, who were far from impressive once again this season, yet moved closer to Arsenal.
Everton 4 Fulham 1: The Toffees continue to be one of the most impressive sides in the Premier League, not even needing Romelu Lukaku to score in their big win. Leon Osman scored first before Dimitar Berbatov equalized from the penalty spot. An excellent finish with goals from Seamus Coleman, Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas brought them up to fourth in the Premier League, but losing Gerard Deulofeu to injury might become something they lament very soon.
Newcastle 1 Southampton 1: The home side were the better team through the match, but Loic Remy continues his goal drought with two glorious misses, Yoan Gouffran scored first but Southampton enjoyed a great second half from Adam Lallana who came off the bench, leading to Jay Rodriguez scoring the equalizer.
West Ham 0 Sunderland 0: A result that doesn’t do any good to both teams, stuck deep in the bottom of near it. The Black Cats were probably closer to finding the goal, especially through Phil Bardsley, but all in all it was a poor affair at Upton Park.
Hull City 0 Stoke City 0: A very dull performance, with Hull being the slightly more dangerous side, although the best of chances came for Peter Crouch and Ryan Shawcross late in the second half.
Aston Villa 0 Manchester United 3: Quite a way to return to the Premier League and bring back Manchester United into any kind of race (Champions League), as Danny Welbeck, a surprise start in the lineup, scored two goals, while Tom Cleverley added a third in a convincing win.
Norwich 1 Swansea City 1: Both teams remain a fair distance from the relegation zone after the draw, opened by a goal from Nathan Dyer before Gary Hooper equalized right before half time.
Tottenham 0 Liverpool 5: No one is talking about championships or Champions League berth at Spurs, and Andre Villas-Boas might not be so sure he’ll last the season or even the year at the club. Luis Suarez with a brace, Jordan Henderson, Jon Flanagan and Raheem Sterling poured on the pain, pushing Liverpool back to second place.
