Match Highlights – Tottenham vs Liverpool

Luis Suarez

A shocking result in White Hart Lane, as the Luis Suarez show conquers North London. Liverpool win 5-0 with a brace and three assists from the Uruguayan striker, helping John Flanagan, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling get on the scoresheet as well, while Tottenham once again collapse in a big match that was a must win for her.

While one spotlight goes to Suarez, reaching 17 league goals in only 11 league matches, the other goes to Andre Villas-Boas, running out of excuses or control over his team, failing to get one shot on target during the entire match.

Liverpool were the more dangerous team right from the start, and if it wasn’t for Hugo Lloris making some impressive one on one saves, it would have ended in another humiliating result for Spurs against a team they see as their equals in the slipping race for a title or a Champions League.

Luis Suarez was the first to score in the 18th minute after a brilliant set of dribbling and a finish that very few players can pull off with left foot in a one on one. Liverpool kept on creating chances, as Mamdou Sakho hit the post, but Jordan Henderson was the next to get on the scoresheet. He missed in a one on one, Luis Suarez’ rebound was also stopped by Lloris but nothing could stop Henderson scoring the second goal.

Andre Villas-Boas tried making changes at half time, but he didn’t make a difference in the midfield, completely controlled by Liverpool through Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson, creating the ground for more and more counter attacks through Suarez, Coutinho, Sterling and Henderson.

The frustration was building at Tottenham, and Paulinho got sent off for a very late challenge, kicking Luis Suarez in the chest. This signaled a complete collapse, as Tottenham resorted to fouls and hardly any thought in trying to slow down the match, instead opening up even further, resulting in a devastating result.

It continued with John Flanagan scoring a wonderful goal off a Luis Suarez assist in the 74th minute, but it wasn’t over, not for Suarez. The Uruguayan, surely the hottest player in Europe right now, showed his beautiful technique with a wonderful lob over the poor Lloris to make it 4-0, and added a perfect through ball to help Raheem Sterling score the fifth goal.

It’s hard to see how much longer Andre-Villas Boas can last after losing two big matches in less than a month by a scoreline of 11-0, while Liverpool, with Gerrard and Sturridge, continue to play excellent football, led by Suarez, the best player in the Premier League, and might be showing they’re ready to stick with this title race all the way, once again climbing to second place.
