The problems aren’t over for Tottenham, finding it quite difficult not just to get out of their poor form, but also find a manager to replace Andre Villas-Boas. Franco Baldini has offered his resignation which was rejected by Daniel Levy, while Roberto Di Matteo, Roberto Mancini and Murat Yakin remain as the leading men to take over the managerial position.
So how does this go? Spurs were just knocked out of the League Cup in a home defeat to West Ham, furthering their troubles of drifting further and further away from a spot in the Champions League as their inability to score goals combined with horrendous results in big matches against Manchester City, losing 6-0, and at home against Liverpool, resulting in a 5-0 humiliation and Villas-Boas leaving the club.
Yakin seems to be a name everyone is agreeing on, with the Swiss manager also confirming he has been approached. The former international centre back has been Basel’s manager since the beginning of last season, winning the league championship with them in Switzerland. His performances with the club in the Champions League, including beating Chelsea twice and moving on to the Europa League for a second straight season have caught plenty of attention.
Mancini has only recently been introduced as the Galatsaray manager. Even though he has been struggling with the club in the league, he did manage to aid in the 1-0 win over Juventus, which made Gala the unlikely second team in the group to join Real Madrid and make it into the round 0f 16. That’s the second straight year Galatasaray have qualified from the group stage, which is quite rare for a second-tier club in Europe.
Di Matteo? That would just be funny. He has been out of the spotlight since leaving Chelsea in the middle of last season. A Champions League winner, an FA Cup winner, and he lasted less than a season with Roman Abramovich. He took over for Andre Villas-Boas the last time the Portuguese manager was sacked, which would make it quite fitting he would fill the same post again two years later.
